Brown Bread Recipe
  • 450g of Ballyminane Mills Stoneground Wholemeal Flour
  • 150g of plain flour
  • 1 oiled loaf tin
  • 1 teaspoon of bread soda
  • ½ a teaspoon of salt
  • 700ml of buttermilk
  1. Mix all of the dry ingredients then pour in the buttermilk. It should create a nice, smooth mix. Optional – sprinkle porridge oatlets on top.
  2. Preheat the oven at gas mark 6 or 200℃ (400℉) and bake for 40 to 50 minutes.
  3. To know when it is cooked, simply tap the bottom of the loaf – it will sound hollow when it is fully cooked.
  4. Remove from the tin and wrap the loaf in a clean tea towel while cooling. This will keep the crust soft.

Enjoy with a hearty bowl of soup for lunch or with butter and jam as a filling snack.
